A voice T1 is a T1 line that provides 24 simultaneous calls at a time. The T1 is channelized, a term meaning that the T1 is split into 24 equal 64kbps channels. A voice T1 is intended to plug into a PBX phone system.
While a T1 line can only handle 24 calls at the same time, there are no limitations to how many extensions or can use it. In most cases there are fewer calls made that the number of extensions. The key is determining the how many calls are being made at peak times. Your company may only need a 4:1 ratio as opposed to a call center that needs a 1:1 ratio of extensions to channels.
You must remember when calculating your needs that a channel can only support one call at a time, regardless whether that call is inbound or outbound. You must have a handle on how many calls you receive during peak periods.
